Wow, is the first word to describe the1. Its amazing, and presents data that is counter-intuitive to general societal discussions. First one that pops to mind is that beyond a certain number, the joy of wealth accumulation declines. Simultaneously, his approach to the book is pristine capitalism. I say this because like a true innovator, he is not complaining but presenting his ideas for solutions. Its better than most socialist thinkers who sit and complain without doing anything. Furthermore, he presents his discussion on capitalism like Adam Smith intended to - let the free market be the invisible hand. His views on subsidies is unique amongst the erudite but the same as me. However, I disagree with him on the Carbon tax. I think that’s dystopian, and companies should not be allowed to push the taxes to consumers. The amount of examples he presents in this regards are beyond mesmerising, and additionally, he is willing to take on his colleagues or fellow authors who cherry pick data to put their point across. This valour to put on the fight is where I found his book most appealing. I liked how he was willing to discuss data in its entirety. This presents a more comprehensive view of the topic and let data - not my bias - do the talking. As I continue to research bias, I find these anecdotes in the book very endearing as I am able to associate my frustrations with biased stories and news in it. I will have to adapt his approach and find more data to counter the arguments - basically, I will have to overcome my laziness and build my story from both perspectives with more quantitative data to support it. This needs motivation and I must find it soon in me to start compiling it. The book lacks a story telling nature, which is a bit of a drawback in its reach to the masses. But, it will make the masses think because of the manner in which it presents facts, and tries to relate them to the common man. His attempt to reach out to his audience is worth applauding and better than many non-fiction authors that I have read. This must be learnt by me also when and if I ever begin to write. I did enjoy the book. It was a light read, and provided me with a lot of material in the future to fall back upon. I am going to write these page numbers here in order to be summarise them later.
